is pretty stiff | 07 November 2001 | 3:26 pm

sniffly today, and coughing and sore. not enough to leave work again, though.

this 20pg. poetry requirement for the MFA application is pretty stiff. most of my poetry is under a page long...and i have to sift through all of the poop for something good to revise and such and send. pleh. anyhoo, today i have been working on it a bit more (luckily i have until jan. 15th to get everything in) and here is one of the ones as of late that i will add to the portfolio.

SNOW ANGEL

Skipping down the icy stairs
silver hair arched as wings,
in sky she counts the angels
their names in solid breath.

She drops onto the lawn, the snow
fanning out her arms and legs,
silk nightgown slick and wet
set in the moonlights glow.

Drawing the sign of the cross
head heavy, back to doze,
her mouth opens to the heavenly host
come to rest frozen on her tongue.
