now i have a "little guy" too... | 14 January 2006 | 3:29 pm

bipartite patella - a birth defect involving the patella being made of two parts instead of one. most people do not even know they have it until their knee is through the x-ray or mri, i certainly had no clue. seems the extra/second bone in my patella is at times becoming less joined to the knee-cap and rubrubrubbing at other parts of my knee. now that i know what it is, i can feel the beginning of the process, when it starts to rub a bit - and i can visualize it, clearly. peh.

what to do now - well, either i stop being active all together (not an option); i have the extra bone detached from the encasing tendon, giving it a percentage chance to form a solid union with the rest of the patella (in 11 out of 15 cases it seems to work, i believe - if not then the bone is completely removed in surgery #2); or i have the offending bone removed altogether perhaps through endoscopic procedures (only one surgery).

tt and i made up a list of questions to ask about the procedures, etc. (feel free to suggest any questions you think of *grin*) we are going to call the Dr. sometime in the next few weeks over speakerphone and grill. i dreaded going to the orthopedist - i did. i knew.

grrargh. mostly things have been well, mostly. we are hot on the pursuit of the elusive place to live - wi-ley coyote (sp) and i are like this (II) oh yes. the mr. is still having stress stomach pain. these are things now, however, that we have a plan for and problem solved - oy.

we have been meeting more people here - which is a great up thing, oh yes. we had people over for new year dinner, and there were about 9ppl - and that is not including sither, who did not come. that is 9 friends, oh yes. ...or at least friends and boy/girlfriends. aside from that we spent the holidays roasting nuts in the fireplace, relaxing and just being alive.

today we are eating oatmeal, playing canesta, and nursing each other through the flu. all in all - a great day of hanging out with each other - although i could do with slightly less phlegm. heh.
