directly after voting last night tt and i hopped a bus or two to the Mission and the DayoftheDead procession. i expected a bit more tradition and less annoying white-breads with skull paint, but it was still very interesting to see. i need to do some research on the holiday so i know how to properly participate, but we lit a candle for our SeshaKitty and processed a bit, remembering how wonderful and happy he was in our own little way. we went to the Mission for distraction and mexican food, i was much too anxious to stay home.

i used to hide from politics and elections - i would hide from news and the truth (the two do not necessarily coincide) - i would ignore and deflect, keeping my emotions clean and pure for my own little world of made-up problems and worries. i simply had too much on my internal plate to turn outward to reality.

i am not so sure this ignorance was a bad idea.

i first started caring about politics with gore vs. bush in 2000 - a devastating tragedy. this is worse. after all, in 2000 we did not yet know what bush was capable (and incapable) of...we did not know he would gladly allow himself to be a puppet (painful it is to have so many fists up your ass at one time, Bush, isn't it?) i feel as if i have been dumped by my government, my country, my home and its people. i am heartbroken and hopeless - i swing from the sad, to numb, to frustrated.

this morning there was silence on the bus, and more at work - no one making eye contact unless necessary, their shoulders hunched forward, their eyes far away and a bit wet. over 50 electoral votes from california were not enough...what is? what else could we do?

i would like to see the numerical correlation between suicide rates and election time historically, as well as a comparison to those around election 2004. that would be some interesting reading, methinks.

my horror of horrors occurred last night when they were talking about LameDucks on the news (yes, Mr.B, LAME), and preparations for election 2008. The Republicans will want a strong and popular candidate to succeed Bush - someone like...Schwarzenegger.

i... am... so... cold.
