austin day 1

today i fly in to austin and prepare for tomorrow's conference. tomorrow i will be in an all day preservation workshop - today, today is mine. not sure what i will do once flown in. suppose i will drive up into the city, just to see - well, to see everything. the last time i was in austin was about 10 years ago for some sort of programming convention. i remember a heavenly taco/burrito chain with about 15 different salsas. this girl is cookoo for salsa, oh my.

airports are all about waiting, endless waiting to get packed into a sardine tin. (i hope we have mustard sauce.)

times like these i wonder why airports cannot allow free wireless service to their patrons, i wonder and daydream about the cowboy hat i shall buy in TX. black felt, oh yes, and inches and inches of protection from the sun. i need me a cowboy sun bonnet, yes, which to round up the kitties in.

and a hundred baby strollers line up to get onto my plane - i do hope the parents have thought to drug the little ones. cough syrup does wonders for enclosed spaces. (all is quiet/sleepy so far!)

*hopes she can get an exit row*

i am on the plane, thinking. the last time i was on the plane it was with tt, as we flew home after our wedding. it has been almost 3 months now and we are comfortable and content as can be. sad little things every now and then, such as the wedding mascara drying up - they are special special things a bride pampers herself with (even if bought at walgreens *smile*.) it seems like so long ago already, really - all that planning, all that pomp - all done. yay!

about 40 min till landing - and the nerves set in. will i get lost? will i end up at a cowboy karoke bar for dinner again by accident? will i meet anyone to hang out with at the conference? will i use the pool? oh the questions! heh. at least i have the evening to get settled in before i need to be anywhere. i have actually liked the two other business trips i went on - very interesting - but difficult to call them fun by any definition of the word.

there is always the off-chance that i will meet a cutie - mayhaps two. none of the stewardesses qualify, for certain. perhaps a cute archivist to get drinks with? always exciting to daydream, no? always a useful distraction when one already misses their h-h-husband!
